With Botha House entering it's 90th anniversary year, management decided on creating events throughout the year to mark this memorable upcoming occassion. The first of these events, to be hosted on the lawns of the grand old house, was the Botha House Vintage Car Show.
In conjunction with the Veteran Car Club of Durban, the Classic Car Club of Port Shepstone and the Crookes family collection, the 24th of January will certainly be a day to remember in the small coastal village of Pennington.
At 8.30 on what was turning out to be a fantastically hot summer Sunday, the vehicles of this bye-gone era in motoring began to arrive. Some of the vehicles so old that they needed to be brought in on trailers by the various owners. Once in the grounds, the cars found their display parking spots and the public began to arrive.
Some of the more feature vehicles included two Rolls Royce Phantoms, a 1904 Cadillac and a Sunbeam originally owned and driven by General Jan Smuts. certainly a fitting collection of cars on display along the front lawn of the "old lady"...Botha House. Comments even srose from visitors tot the event that they could imagine this is how the house would've looked like when visited by the various Prime Ministers and Dignitaries of the 30's and 40's.
An overwhelming attendence was seen by the public visitors who arrived from all over KZN. A great day had out by all who attended and a big thank you goes to every one who did for making it such a memorable day.
